Kurt Cobain's Daughter To Duet With My Chemical Romance
By Yuda
According to Nme.com, Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love's daughter Frances Bean will be appearing on a track alongside My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way.
Cobain, who has been often hounded by press, will make her singing debut on the song "My Space" with Way, Andrew WK andWeird Al Yankovic. The track is being used for debut album ofEvelyn Evelyn, the new group formed by Dresden Dollsfrontwoman Amanda Palmer and Seattle musician Jason Webley.
Along with those artists, several others will make an appearance on the song. Some of which include Tegan And Sara, ex-Hold Steady keyboardist Franz Nicolay and various members of Mindless Self Indulgence. The debut record is set to be released on March 30.
Cobain has had her fair share of time in the music industry. In 2008, the only child ofKurt worked as an intern for Rolling Stone and for her 16th birthday, she held an event at the House Of Blues in Hollywood, California, that cost her mother over $326,000.
Mainstream music, nah -- Singapore loves its indie
By Yuda
The mass hysteria that broke out in January after alternative rock band The Killers canceled their sold-out gig in Singapore summed it up: Singapore is officially a hotbed for indie music. 2010 definitely started off with a bang. In January alone, York hipster fave Yeah Yeah Yeahs descended upon our shores, followed closely by singer/songwriter Cat Power (aka Chan Marshall). Punk legends Green Day and acclaimed musicians Patrick Watson and Andrew Bird came next.
The next two months are going to be just as satisfying with acts like Florence and The Machine, Kings of Convenience and Imogen Heap arriving.
But this growing interest in indie music certainly didn't happen overnight. Concert promoter Greenhorn Productions, set up in 2003, organized their first gig with folk singer Amy Wadge, and was pleasantly surprised when it sold out. The start of Mosaic Music Festival in 2005 expanded the scene further by bringing in bands such as Tortoise and Yo La Tengo over the last few years.
"Mosaic Music Festival may have begun with primarily jazz and world music performances but it’s always had the intent to introduce a range of quality sounds to our audiences," says Amy Ho, producer of Esplanade Theatres. "The indie acts have done somewhat better in terms of attracting our younger audiences. We get more and more people wiling to come and listen to new sounds and indie acts that we present each year.”
Sylvia Choy-Dhillion, director of Greenhorn Productions, which has also brought in Death Cab for Cutie and Aimee Mann agrees. "A large part of our success is due to the increasingly eclectic, sophisticated and discerning tastes of Singapore music fans. Patrick Watson’s recent show at the Esplanade Recital Studio was sold out and the band was pleasantly surprised that they were playing to a largely Singaporean audience that was as lively and uninhibited as they come.”
All these point to one thing: We’re a building a music-loving reputation that’ll attract more bands and musicians to stop over. Ho reveals the quality of the acts performing at The Esplanade has helped convince others to come here and that Singaporeans are definitely eager for more. Greenhorn Productions also enthuses that they receive plenty of requests from over 4,000 of their Facebook group fans and they’re working to stay ahead of the curve in meeting audiences’ demand.
Indie music lovers will rejoice with that news. Next up, a music festival like Glastonbury, perhaps?

Relive Big Night Out 2010!
By Yuda
The first concert I've attended in 2010 and what an insane one! Green Day fans were treated to a feast, The Killers fans were treated to a erm....nvm....
And Muse fans certainly got what they deserved!
There was a great deal of people arriving way before 7pm but it seemed that the queue was constrained, crawling like a snail, so much so that there were still plenty of people at the queue as Saosin finished their set (And yes I was one of them). So I missed Saosin....bummer....
Iron Man 2 go metal
By Yuda
THROUGH a unique collaboration between Marvel Studios and Columbia Records, AC/DC's music will be featured in Marvel Studios' Iron Man 2, the sequel to the 2008 blockbuster film. In addition, Columbia Records will release the album AC/DC: Iron Man 2 on April 19, which features 15 classic AC/DC songs selected from 10 of the band's studio albums from between 1976 to 2008.
The film opens internationally beginning on April 28
and with its American released scheduled for release on May
7.
The sequel is once again directed by Jon Favreau, with
Robert Downey Jr reprising his starring role, along with Gwyneth
Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Scarlett Johansson, Sam Rockwell, Mickey
Rourke and Samuel L Jackson.
"Jon Favreau's vision and passion for AC/DC's music blend
seamlessly into this incredible film," said Steve Barnett,
co-chairman of Columbia Records. "The music really underscores
the high energy and excitement of the film."
"Music is an integral part of the Tony Stark and Iron Man
experience and we are pleased that Columbia and AC/DC are taking
part in the franchise's phenomenon," said Marvel Studios chief
operating officer Tim Connors.
"Through this relationship, the band is delivering Iron
Man-branded music through all our combined consumer touch points,
from the movie to retail outlets and even virally with the debut
of the new video."
The lead video from AC/DC: Iron Man 2 is the AC/DC's
classic Shoot To Thrill, which was filmed live last month in
Buenos Aires during the band's highly acclaimed Black Ice World
Tour, the second-highest-grossing world tour of last year
according to concert industry trade publication Pollstar, and
will incorporate exclusive footage from Iron Man
2.
The song itself was originally recorded for the band's
50-million selling 1980 album, Back In Black, one of the
best-selling albums of all time.

New Zealand’s biggest band joins Rock & Roots line-up!
By Yuda
OPSHOP are a four-piece rock band from Auckland, New Zealand that has released two albums, You Are Here and Second Hand Planet.
You Are Here was released in 2004 and achieved platinum status in New Zealand on the back of a steady stream of high rotate singles. Songs like No Ordinary Thing, Secrets, Levitate and Saturated won favour across both major and independent radio formats alike, quickly entering New Zealand’s musical lexicon. The critical and commercial success of You Are Here provided a promising platform for Second Hand Planet to build on this momentum, and the results now speak for themselves.
Since being released in April 2007, Second Hand Planet has enjoyed 67 weeks of continuous success on NZ’s Top 40 charts and hit the number one spot in its thirty-second week of release…beating out the debut week of a band called Radiohead in the process!
Rock & Roots is pleased to present the biggest band from New Zealand, and one of the finest talents to emerge in recent years to our sunny shores.
