Venue: Beer market
Date: 27th Dec 2012
Band: Zsa + Claire + Charmaine

So we haven't covered live bars in a long time! Time to get our butts moving again so here's our take on a live bar with one of the most unique concepts in the island, Beer Market.

Beer Market is basically a stock exchange of beers where the prices of a wide selection of beers fluctuation based on demand and I'm sure some secret formula that keeps things fresh, interesting and unpredictable.

Happy Hungry Hour here is really one of the best deals I've ever come across. $3 for a sausage, a plate of honey/spicy wings or a plate of cheese nachos before 8pm. It doesn't get any better than this. And have I mentioned that they are delicious! So if you're planning a trip down to Beer Market, 8pm is the time to beat.

Now comes the part everyone is most interested in on Live4MusiC, the music!

The band schedule as of the date of visit was:

But the band of the day was Zsa + Claire + Charmaine. Made up of 2 acoustic guitarists and 1 violinist, all of whom take turns on vocal duties. They were also accompanied by a percussionist on the cajon. The thing that stood out for me immediately was the interesting addition of the violin into the mix. The instrument just adds an additional layer of ambience and musicality in the improvised leads, giving the covers their own signature twist.

Some of the artistes covered during the night includes Death Cab for a Cutie, Adele, Neon Trees, Coldplay, Maroon 5, Radiohead, Joan Jett, Gotye, Incubus etc. And of course the band always scores points when your dedication is being played, on this occasion "Drive" by Incubus.

Bonus points for declining dedications for Justin Bieber and Carly Rae Jepsen :) Although they succumbed to the dark side on the final set :(

The end of the band's set for the night (and for the year) was marked by an interesting medley of techno songs from Aqua, Eiffel 65, Smile.dk (more popular known for the song "butterfly"). With the musical talent in the band, it's difficult not to adore them musically no matter how much hate you might have for Techno.

I've personally caught Shili & Adi and Pennylane and these are great musicians as well. Pennylane, if you'd like a full band setup with that increased rock feel.

Who should visit:

- Suckers for great bar food (not to mention cheap during happy hour)

- Signature twists to their covers
- Great vocals and backup vocals
