F1 Rocks! Rocks! (Day 2)

I am totally in a state of disbelief. This has got to be the most
elaborate gig ever to be held in Singapore. Didn’t plan to go for
this initially even though I was dying to see ZZ Top! Then came
an angel who was selling his ticket for $50!!! What a god-send!
And so ZZ Top here I come! There was also some controversy
surrounding the technical issues with sound on Day 1, which kept
the crowd waiting for a large part of the gig. However, Day 2
went on very successfully!

"No Sharp Objects" --> What about the Sharp Dressed Men?
o.O
The first important thing I noticed at the event. Wow the beer is
pretty decently priced! $8 for a glass of Tiger and $10 for a
glass of Heineken. Ok the Tiger is decent but not the Heineken
=). Kudos to F&B provider Harry’s for that! The Red Bull
Stage saw mostly party DJs for the after-gig party!

Now, the main stage is GODLY. Full-sized LCD displays, a huge
stage, and an isle for the artistes to get closer to the
audience. Something you normally see on MTV Awards etc? I don’t
really need to spend too much time describing the stage, the
pictures and videos will speak for themselves.
First up was N*E*R*D, a hip-hop band that really lived up to
their reputation. They had an important task at hand having to
pump up the early crowd. First time I ever witnessed a band who
had 2 full-blown drummers! It was off to a great start with the
super high energy level most hip-hop acts possess. The crowd was
so into it as well. A great night awaits!
Simple Minds then took the stage and although I’ve never heard their music, I was really impressed by their songs. I could completely fall in love with the tunes at first sight! They might look like a bunch of musicians past their prime but trust me they will rock your socks off! Crowd interaction between the vocalist and the crowd could pretty much be summarised by the phrase "Is everyone doing ok?" though. Those who were there will understand what i mean =)

We then took off to buy some beer in preparation for the Rock
& Roll legends ZZ Top!!! Epic coolness is what describes them
and their performance best! So tight, so well co-ordinated! They
know exactly when and how to move. Minimum movement. Maximum
coolness. ZZ Top! Didn't disappoint at all! Rock legends right
before our very eyes! (They play louder than the F1 engine
according to the show last night -.-) In all honesty, I thought
the F1 Rocks telecast on TV was crap. But save that for another
article =)
Extremely exhausted after ZZ Top’s set but No Doubt is still in
line. Things just keep getting better! No Doubt took ages to come
on. In the meantime, we were treated to some dubbing by Lindsay
Lohan. Recording lines for the whole event just so it could be
cut onto the TV telecast. So it really didn’t make much sense for
us, didn't even get to see her on the stage =(

So No Doubt was coming on in 12 minutes according to LG time I
suppose? And there was a 1.5 minute countdown.
5...4...3...2...1...F1 Commercial....wtF? If you put a countdown
timer then at least adhere to it? And waited for a while
longer....alright another countdown.....this time it seems real.
The lights turned off. The whole band dressed in white except for
1 wearing underwear and socks (the drummer) came in. It was No
Doubt! Gwen Stefanie is HOT! The energy on stage was intense and
her character shone through! The signature voice and attitude of
Gwen Stefanie best experienced Live! Non-stop moving around,
running, skipping, whatever you can think of, all over the stage
for the entire set! Easily could clock 8 kilometres. What made
the night perfect? They actually came out to do an encore after
continuous loud chants from the crowd (Although it's pretty much
planned like it always is =))
This show just brings the Live Music scene in Singapore to the
next level! For those of you that missed it this year, you MUST
catch it next year! Things can only get better!
