Date: 19th Dec (Sat) 730pm
Venue: NAFA Lee Foundation Theatre

This event is a showcase of all the musical and singing talents from Intune music  school comprising of a song and dance concert, with many interesting elements such as retro songs, j pop, k pop, unplugged singing etc.

The theme for the concert is vibrancy and colours as it signifies the various talents in the school and their ability to traverse various musical genres.

Here's the interview of two of the most talented performers that night (Pardon my poor Chinese...English and Chinese Transcripts can be found below):

 English Transcript:

1.     Basic introduction.

 i.      Xueting: i’m Xueting and i’ve been around since the school started and i’m actually like the 3rd student of the school, one of the older generation. I’ve been in this school for about 2 years and i’m 22 this year (I was worried you guys might think i’m 27!)

ii.      Zuoen: i’m Zuoen. 22 this year as well. Think we started performing together about 2 years ago and now i’m teaching some classes here.

2.     What are you doing at the moment?

i.      Xueting: i’m currently doing some backstage music assignments.

ii.      Zuoen: me too, mostly music-related assignments on a freelance basis and also constantly performing.

3.     What inspired you to take up this musical journey?

i.      Xueting: initially it was purely for the love of music and after that i guess it was due to my friends. I think friends are extremely important. Learning as a group makes things much more interesting.

ii.      Zuoen: i love singing and i’ve been involved in the choir when i was in school as well. After that i began learning how to sing and compose. In the beginning it was due to the liking for certain musicians, and their songs influenced me to want to write.

4.     So are you all more vocal-focused or instrument?

i.      Xueting: more on singing i think. Having to play instruments is mostly forced =p Mainly due to requirements of performing as InTune provides us with a lot of performing opportunities

5.     How long have you been performing?

i.      Zuoen: Starting from 2006 and gradually had more opportunities in 2007

ii.      Xueting: InTune is my first performing school and 2007 to 2008 was where i had the most opportunities.

6.     When did you start taking up singing classes?

i.      Both: before we even started performing, we picked up vocal lessons in 2005

7.     What made you want to take up classes?

i.      Zuoen: it was purely out of interest

ii.      Xueting: i love singing and so i just want to improve my singing

iii.      Zuoen: i began with composing classes before i went for vocal classes

8.     What do you think about the importance of receiving formal training?

i.      Xueting: i think it has a certain level of importance. At least you will find out some things you would otherwise be clueless about your entire life. Things such as techniques and expressions. Even the way you hold the mic has an impact on your singing. Having formal training does not just encompass vocal training but also many performing techniques, which i’ve learnt a lot.

ii.      Zuoen: going for classes also allows you to meet many like-minded people.

9.     How’s your experience with InTune Music School?

i.      Xueting: this is the 1st school that actually feels like a family. The trainers also do not present themselves in an authoritative manner and this makes learning a lot easier

10.How does this event compare to your past performances?

i.      Xueting: the biggest difference is that this upcoming event will be the biggest venue we’ve ever performed. The audience will be huge and there will be a long list of performers performing.

ii.      Zuoen: also our preparation for this event began way back.

11.Any nerves?

i.      Xueting: the nerves would mainly be due to the fact that we will be playing our original compositions and we’re afraid it will be more difficult for the audience to accept

12.So can you give us an idea of what musical pieces we can expect at the event?

i.      Zuoen: the first song will be a bit more jazzy

ii.      Xueting: yea the first song will be like having red wine in a posh cafe, the second song like having coffee in a posh cafe, and the last will be like drinking beer =)

13.So what are your long-term goals?

i.      Zuoen: i hope the songs i write can have an influence on people and do more performances that inspire people.

ii.      Xueting: having been writing for so many years, i just hope to express myself and be heard. The result is not so important to me.

14.How do keep yourself focused on this dream?

i.      Xueting: We constantly encourage and challenge one another. Sometimes when she writes a song and after having listened to it, i tell myself i can’t lose to her! =D

ii.      Zuoen: actually performing works like this too. If you see your group member practicing hard, you will want to practice as hard too.

iii.      Xueting: yea the people around you are really important.

15.Any advice for aspiring musicians out there whom may be in the same shoes as you?

i.      Zouen: taking part in competitions etc is a good way

ii.      Xueting: i think practice is the most important

16.Any final thoughts and comments?

i.      Zuoen: we’ll be dancing on stage =D

ii.      Xueting: although we won’t say this concert will be the best, it definitely is very sincerely organised and so i hope all of you will come down!
