Metal Madness 2009!
Date: 18th July 2009
Venue: NTU Alumni Club
Hosted by: Soundgrooves Singapore (www.soundgroovessingapore.webs.com)

This is one kickass venue for gigs! Hoisted on the linkway between the 8th floor of 2 buildings, the view is and the atmosphere is amazing! Before the gig proper began, we had the privilege of interviewing 3 of the excellent bands playing later on! Thy Fallen Kingdom, Cranium Carnage, and The Wreckage.

Some food and of course some beer to get some energy before the show!
The stage is set and the bands are ready! So let's ROCK! Will let the videos do most of the talking =)
First band! Heidon (Thrash Metal)!

A 3-piece band that sounded really tight with pure rhythmic prowess!
Almost like a modern sounding Kreator
Cranium Carnage (Black Death Metalcore)

One of the youngest amongst the bands. Full of energy!

Patchwork Neurology (Progressive Metal)

Effects Haven! They are one professional performing band taking care of the smallest detail in sound, from tribal drums, to the shaker, to the awesome guitar effects! Very tight and very professional!
Thy Fallen Kingdom (Thrash Metal)

Classic thrash metal stuff with lots of energy, extreme technical proficiency and amazing expression of the songs by the vocalist! (However, they were the last band to enjoy the blessings of the microphone...some said Dave spoilt it...his vocals were too brutal)
Steel Damange (Melodic Heavy Metal)
Playing lots of songs from BFMV. They were unlucky to bear the brunt of the technical difficulties.
Helven (Melodic Heavy Metal)

Insane showmanship. Awesome technicality. Crazy professionalism. Trained to shred at 300 beats per minute with a cigarette in mouth. Having to handle the microphone setback, they pulled off crazy instrumentals coupled with almost every technique you could find in the guitar book! Some might argue it's not metal but no matter what, this is good MUSIC.
The Wreckage (Deathcore)

The most popular band of the night supported by the craziest of fans! The gig coincides with the release of their album "Uncalled Vengeance". I have never been a big fan of the "Core" genre but this album is incredible but having given it a spin once through, it certainly has a rhythmic groove that will appeal to anyone who loves heavy chugging distortion. On top of that, there's some really catchy lead playing as well! (The videos don't do them much justice though due to mic problems.)
The bands on showcase were amazing to say the least. The standard was nothing below excellent! The venue was perfect, the food, the beer, the legal smoking. The biggest letdown was the equipment. The bass drum sounded like farts and the mic, needless to say, became inaudible for the second half of the concert, which was a bit disappointing. Despite that, the bands still put up a fantastic show! We were really bemused by the lack of support shown for the event. The turnout was small. Where are all the metalheads in Singapore? You guys don't know what you've missed out and I'm saying this from the bottom of my heart.
Make sure you catch these bands the next time they perform (especially if they are sharing the same damn stage)!
The Live4MusiC Golden Band of the night goes to:
Helven
Bands you HAVE to check out:
