Venue: Junction 8

PlayOn 2009 is a band competition organised by Bishan Toa Payoh GRC Youth Executive Committee (YEC), PlayOn is in its 3rd year, it was first brought forth in 2007. This year, supporters had a 30% stake in the final results and the remaning 70% decided by the panel of judges. Supporters would vote by sending a text message to the number flashed on screen as shown in the picture, cool ya, and the text messages are free of charged.

Timmy! was the guest band to start of the night but unfortunately wasnt early enough to catch them. You check them out at their myspace, very talented musicians and they do both english and chinese songs, both just equally awesome. (http://www.myspace.com/fmtimmy) Yeah as usual the girls go crazy over Ngak, even the aunties who pop by to see what was going on... hah
From the many budding musicians who applied, they selected 10 bands to compete in the finals. Lets see how the bands fared that night..
1) The Blue Can
2) Band Aid
I thought Band Aid was pretty entertaining, the energetic rock band. They definitely carried off their rock sense very well with their zealous performance.
3) Bricks to the Sky
4) Voodoo
Voodoo, the fun-loving people,
using oil drums, tin cans and whatever sound producing object to
play their music... Awesome stuff.. This 10 piece band, yeah no
jokes, sure do enjoy performing on stage. You just can’t help but
dance along their style of “street music”, its no wonder they got
themselves “Best Original Composition”.
5) El Quatro
Afro Hairdo + excellent musicianship + stage presence + great entertainers = Winner of PlayOn 2009
They had it all right, no doubts about their
victory...
6) Balloon Wings
Balloon Wings giving some music lessons
before they start on their Japanese Song.
7) Equinox
Woo! using a loud hailer for special
effects.
8) Valley Skies
9) Stellar Memory
10) Angeloft
The vocalists pretty good ya,
her voice range has got that mysterious, creepy sensation,
complement their music range very well. Don’t you find her style
a little like Amy from Evanescence?
The night was nicely ended with
Auditory Effect playing a 15 minute set, they were the
winning band of PlayOn 2008.
