Date: 25th July 2009
Venue: Zouk
Hosted by: F-Entertainment

First off, let us take this opportunity to introduce our new parter, Flash.Stop (Photography). All pictures are all proudly provided by their shooting expertise, so you guys are in for a treat of alluring photographs!

A live music event combined with a good cause. 4 year old charmaine is diagnosed with Stage Four Neuroblastoma and requires funds for her medical treatments and expenses.

This event, brought to us by F-Entertainment promised a strong line-up of musicians over a span of two days:

Performances (Day 1):
OUTOFRANGE
THE SALLYS
STUDIO WU
GOODFELLAS
ACADEMY OF ROCK
LEESON

Performances (Day 2):
ACADEMY OF ROCK
SAMBIESTA
VOODOO DRUMS
CARACAL
WEST GRAND BOULEVARD
S.P.O.N.G.E
GREAT SPY EXPERIMENT

Combined with the generosity of Zouk to be the official venue, this event certainly is very promising.

Academy of Rock

The event kicked off with a band from co-sponsors, Academy of Rock, who donated a sum of $10,000 to the cause. This band showcases some of the youngest talents in the academy with 10 year old Tama endorsee, Theron on drums, and an 8 year old girl on vocals for the first song, girlfriend by Avril Lavigne. Tama endorsee, Theron, no doubt lives up to expectations leaving many wondering what they were doing at 10 years old.

The band certainly showcased potential from their very young musicians and is definitely worth checking out just for that. Credit to Academy of Rock for churning out such young talents!

At this point of time, the venue remained largely empty.

Outofrange

The second band, Outofrange, consisting of core members from Superband 2009, Synpathy, was led by a different singer this time round. The energy of the band is undisputable but the vocals was the saving grace for this performance. The playing wasn't as tight as it could have been. However, given that they were called up on short notice, their efforts were commendable in contributing to the cause.

The Sallys

The Sallys finally brought the music up to mark with a full setup of wind instruments accompanying the guitar, bass, keyboard, and drums. Looking like a truly seasoned band indeed, bringing another dimension to music.

Studio Wu

Studio Wu, a dance studio, completely changed the pace of things. Good looking dancers dancing to upbeat music with sharp moves timed almost to perfection. Although Live4MusiC understands naught about dance, we were genuinely entertained by this item!

Leeson

Next up, Leeson. An experienced band that is used to high-profile events. Their musical talents were immediately apparent. However, the scarce presence of supporters probably affected their performance a little. The music was coming one way, with little attempt to engage the crowd, which was a little disappointing to say the least.

At this point of time, Friz, the emcee of the night as well as the mastermind behind F-Entertainment came out to thank the supporters that have stood by the event since the 1st band (Live4MusiC being amongst them =)). Taking the opportunity of giving out a free saving charmaine t-shirt to pump up the crowd!

Special Guest Performance

Then came the special performance of the night, MP Miss Penny Low, Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC came forward on a 12 hr notice to sing a song for Charmaine and her close ones who had to sit Charmaine through this difficult ordeal. Singing Robbie William's Angels and sparing her thoughts to re-write some of the lyrics in wishing Charmaine the best for her recovery. A touching moment indeed seeing someone of such high stature coming forward. This was accompanied by a hand-made card with all the well wishes from members of the GRC and a $10,000 donation.

Goodfellas

The event then came to a close with a storming performance from all-time favourites, the Goodfellas. Amazingly, they did a great job pulling the attention of the limited and probably exhausted crowd and played songs that couldn't have suited the venue better! Starting off with Coldplay's Viva La Vida, Abba's Dancing Queen, Jason Mraz's I'm Yours, together with R&B and Mambo hits! Finally ending it off with a crowd-favourite, the highly anticipated gig at Fort Canning, Lady GaGa's Pokerface! It does help a lot to see that these guys are actually enjoying themselves on stage! Extremely professional and entertaining.

The turnout for Day 1 of Saving Charmine certainly did not match the ticket sales. On one hand, the funds are being raised, which meets the primary objective of the whole campaign. On the other hand, the efforts put in by the organizers and participating bands are not being justified.

Live4MusiC Golden Band of the night goes to none other than:
Goodfellas!

We certainly hope that Day 2, which promises an even stronger line-up of musicians will rock the whole of Zouk down!

Live4MusiC certainly hopes all the contributions from all the kind souls will bring Charmaine back safely.
