Tay Kewei's Showcase @ Esplanade Waterfront
Date: 19 July, Sunday
Event: Good Vibes at the Waterfront,
Esplanade
Organised by: Health Promotion
Board
This was an event organised by
the Health Promotion Board to promote their campaign, "Positive
Thinking for a Healthy Mind" using music to calm oneself and
combat the stresses in our daily fast-paced city lives. The
message was well put across by Kewei through her soothing voice
and affable nature.
Venue was ideal too, wonderful backdrop of city by
night.
If you do not know Kewei, she actually does background vocals for various artistes such as David Tao, Lin Junjie, A mei and Wang Lee Hom for their world tours and own her own, she is a singer/songwriter for both English and Chinese Songs!
We made a mistake on the timing of the event and went there only in time for the second set. Anyhow we managed to take very deserving videos of Kewei’s second set together with her sister, Kexin and her guest performers. Kewei’s audience profile that night consisted of a very wide group from senior citizens to youngsters to foreigners, it definitely required great entertainment competence to appeal to such a mass.

She did 10 songs in total for the second set, showcasing some of her originals planned to be released in her coming albums. The set list for the 2nd half of the night is as follows: (I hope I got them right)
1) Man in the Mirror – Kewei
2) Plastic Mannequin Love (Originals) - Kewei
3) Difficult Kind – Kewei & Kexin (Kewei’s sister)
4) Umbrella – Kewei & Kexin
5) Xie Ai – Kewei & Kitty (FM93.3 DJ)
6) Yi Shou Qing Ke – Kewei, Ein Ein(Pianist) & Ginny
7) Mei Xiang Guo – Kewei & Alfred
8) Qi Dai Ni De Ai – Alfred
9) All You Have to Do – Kewei
10) Ru Guo (Original) - Kewei
Alright, time to savour some of the wonderful
moments of that night. The first video that would be
showcased would be Kewei’s original song “Plastic Mannequin
Love”, this is a very meaningful song meant to address the severe
consequences of the current sea pollution problem which we are
ignorant and/or nonchalant of. Music and lyrics were composed by
Kewei herself, employing her talent for a very meaningful
purpose. Written with a soothing and catchy melody to it and
coupled with the meaningful lyrics put across creatively through
words. But just a personal thought, the melody sounds a bit too
chirpy for such a meaningful and emotional song =). A great song
nonetheless!
Next, we have some awesome family business to
check out. Kewei performs a duet with her sister, Kexin doing a
cover “Difficult Kind” by Sheryl Crow. The sisters have very much
their own style – Kewei sings with a higher note, very bubbly and
lively expression whereas Kexin has a deep, husky and sexy feel
to her singing. Voices that complement each other to perfection!
Sisters indeed! Needless to say further, hearing is
believing.
Kexin then went on to perform Umbrella with her very own
jazzy version.
Alfred, one of Kewei’s invited guest
performer did a pretty decent job in charming the crowd as
well, realised after some research that Alfred was
actually one of the top 20 contestants for the singing
competition One Million Star Season 5.
The last song “Ru Guo” is also another song written by Kewei and for those who love it, look out for her album which would be released some time next year. This song really has a catchy beat and a RnB feel to the song. I'm sure many people will love it! Unfortunately, we only managed to video half of the song before we were finally stopped by a security personnel =(. Yeah the first attempt to stop Yuda from filming was rather amusing.
Security: are you recording?
Yuda (with a straight face): no. *camera in hand still pointing at the stage*
Security: oh ok *walks away*
We did seek Kewei's opinion on the recordings
at the end of the show though so no worries! The last thing
Live4MusiC wants to do is to go against the artiste's
wishes!
Some of the other shots taken that night.

Having spoken to her at the end of the show, we loved how she was
very approachable and forthcoming, with the zero airs
personality of hers.
This performance just further reinforces her excellent and songwriting talents. The beautiful voice and the charisma in bringing her music across the stage to her audience certainly captures the hearts of whoever is present.
If you can't get enough of Kewei('s singing), you can catch her at Wala Wala on Tuesdays 7-9pm and Firestation Hillside Gastrobar on Thursdays!
