Timbre MusicFest on Campus: NUS Loves Live Music!
Free food, Free beer, Awesome live music. Now that's what we call LIFE! Pretty much something you would expect at every Timbre event.
With 2 performing stages for the event, namely: UCC Theatre for the soothing chillout music, and the UCC Courtyard for the rockers who wants to go crazy!
The UCC Theater was graced by the performances of Shirlyn & The UnXpected, Miki Gavrielov from Israel, and Michaela Therese Band. This was also the stage where musicians played all their original compositions showcasing the creative writing abilities coupled with top-notch deliverance of their music.
Miki Gavrielov was the highlight of the UCC Theatre having come all the way from Israel. Once the music began, however, the geographical boundaries seemed to have diminished as his music transcends the boundaries. Everyone gave their fullest attention during the songs but at the end of every song, roared with a thunderous applause.

Shirlyn's and Michaela's performances where first-class as well, leaving all those seated in the theatre mesmerized.
If the UCC Theatre was filled with an angelic ambience, the UCC Courtyard would be a devilish one. Starting with Blues band, Blues Train, featuring Rai on vocals, and other Blues veterans performing true spiritual blues to the crowd ("You can't sing no Blues without Booze").
Things started to heat up as the Rockafellas, better known as Goodfellas, took the stage with epic rockstar apparels. Starting off with familiar rock tunes like Sweet Child O' Mine by Guns N Roses, Smoke On The Water by Deep purple, Jump by Van Halen, the crowd was really pumped up (with the aid of more FREE alcohol as well)! The crowd roared after every guitar solo and wished it would never end. Screams of encore went on giving the band little choice but to satisfy the enthusiastic crowd. And what better way to end a ROCK set than to end it with LADY GAGA'S POKERFACE (God save me). Oh well it worked with the crowd, that's what matters =D.
Just when you thought there's no way things could get any better, the band which started off the evening comes back on stage, this time at the courtyard, to close off the entire event!
And when Shirlyn & The UnXpected gets on stage, you know what you're gonna get! Shirlyn starts off by telling the crowd how the organisers wanted her to communicate her musical journey through this event. The original compositions played in the Theatre represented the fruits of her labour after years and years of hard work. And the performance at the Courtyard will be a representation of what has influenced and inspired her through her journey.
For the Shirlyn & The UnXpected fans out there, you knew you're going to be getting lots of Queen and Led Zeppelin! =)
Lead guitarist, Rene, was getting lots of air time and deservingly so! Just throw whatever you have at him and he'll play it better than you can ever imagine. This guy is insane! His solos just makes the crowd go crazy just like how every single guitar solo on the night (NUS students really love guitar solos?). Maybe it works better than beer! But I think maybe not...maybe on par =)
The crowd loved Mr Big's To Be With You (Don't forget 18th Oct Fort Canning Park) and the song that started Shirlyn's amazing musical journey. The chorus was so loud during the chorus I don't even remember when was the last time NUS students bothered to cheer so loudly, besides Inter-Hall Games i guess. Hell, they sounded 10 times louder than the Fort Canning filled crowd at Nine Inch Nails.
The entire set closed with Black Sabbath? No. Metallica? No. Rage Against the Machine? No. Smashing Pumpkins? Never ever. It closed with ACDC! Yeah you, shook me all night long! =)
Kudos to the main sponsor Exxonmobil, organiser Timbre Music, and of course TIGER BEER for such a fantastic event!
Also a big thank you to all the musicians who gave their all!
And lastly, NUS! YOU GUYS ROCK!
