Nickelback No. 1 Passion-Killers (Rock News Desk)

By Yuda

One in eight music fans will decide not to sleep with you if they discover you likeNickelback, suggests a survey.

And they’d actually be LESS turned off if you were into Justin BieberLady Gaga or Katy Perry.

The arena pop-rockers have been named the number-one passion killers in music, ahead of ColdplayU2 and Creed plus a stack of chart-fodder outfits.

The information was revealed by users ofTastebuds.fm, a website which matches single people according to their musical preferences.

In the survey, over 13% of people said you’d end the night alone if they were to findChad Kroeger and co on your MP3 player. Women were slightly more likely to be turned off than men, with 14% of females naming the Canadians versus 11.8% of males.

Tastebuds boss Aled Parish says: "We were curious to know which bands people would be most horrified to discover when browsing their date’s iPod".

"Although sharing musical tastes with your partner is no the be all and end all, it can certainly help in maintaining a harmonious relationship. And we’ve seen it’s a great conversation starter".

"It’s always best to be honest about your taste in music, but perhaps don’t mention your fondness for Nickelback until you’ve got the wedding ring on your finger".

Top musical turn-offs:

01. Nickelback 13%
02. Justin Bieber 12%
03. Lady Gaga 9%

Coldplay's Chris Martin: 'Our Lyrics Are Sh-t' (UG)

By Yuda

It’s very rare in the ego fest that is rock and roll to hear any artist talk to the detriment of their own music.

In an interview with the NME, however, Coldplay’s Chris Martinhas admitted that he is not up there with the likes of Bob Dylan orBruce Springsteen when it comes to writing lyrics: "I know our lyrics are a bit sh-t, but (the ones for new track Charlie Brown) I like them a lot."

It is perhaps unsurprising that the lyrics to Charlie Brown have led the singer to question his band’s prowess as wordsmiths. One particularly bizarre verse from the track reads as follows.

"My scarecrow dreams
When they smashed my heart into smithereens
I be a bright red rose come bursting the concrete
Be the cartoon heart
"

As Gigwise reports, the Coldplay front man has also asserted in the interview that his duet with pop star Rhianna on new albumMylo Xyloto is the highlight of the disc:

"Because we put the whole thing through as a story and there's a boy and a girl part, we thought 'who would we like to play the part of the girl?' Princess Of China was very much a back and forth, a duet.

"Top of our list was Rihanna. Bottom of our list was nobody else. We waited about a year and a half to pluck up the courage to ask her. That's my favourite bit of the album. It's the only bit I can bear to listen to because I'm not on it."

"Mylo Xyloto" is released today. Whether you think that Chris Martin is being modest about his lyrical prowess or agree with him that Coldplay’s lyrics are far from great, let us know in the comments section.

Coldplay: Most Sleep-Inducing Band

By Yuda

Coldplay
are the band most likely to send people to sleep, according to the findings of a new survey.

Canadian singer Michael Buble was second in the poll, while Irish group Snow Patrol came third.

The top-5 was completed by Alicia Keys and Jack Johnson, who is famed for his beach side easy listening music.

The study, conducted by Travelodge, found that 84% of people listen to music in bed before going to sleep, while one in four fall asleep with their iPod on.

Fifteen per cent of adults said they get a much better night's sleep if they have listened to music before drifting off.

Stevie Williams, of the Edinburgh Sleep Centre, said that “listening to soft, relaxing music at bedtime leads to a number of different benefits to a night's sleep”.

He continued: "These benefits include a longer sleep duration period, fewer night time awakenings and shortening of the time it takes to fall asleep."

The music of composer Mozart and Radiohead also proved popular with sleepers. You can see the full top-10 below:

01. Coldplay
02. Michael Buble
03. Snow Patrol
04. Alicia Keys
05. Jack Johnson
06. Taylor Swift
07. Mozart
08. Barry White
09. Leona Lewis

Coldplay Can't Finish New Album?

By Yuda

Coldplay haven't finished any songs for their new record.

The band originally planned to release the follow up to their fourth album "Vida La Vida Or Death And All His Friends" in 2010, but finishing their new album - which they have been working on for two years - is taking longer than they originally thought.

Lead singer Chris Martin surprised fans last week when he unveiled a new song, "Wedding Bells" at a conference in California, but a source close to the band said not even the full arrangement of that song is complete.

The source told fan site Coldplaying.com: "Chris said that although they are close to finishing lots of songs, they have not actually finished anything at all yet, even 'Wedding Bells'!

"They band always seem to finish a huge bulk of songs together. He was very confident anyway, but said that the last two months have not been as completely productive as first imagined.

"But he also said 'You can't rush things like this!'"

Coldplay originally retired to the studio in 2009 to start recording, and at the time Chris - who is joined in the band by guitarist Johnny Buckland, bassist Guy Berryman and drummer Will Champion - was "banned" by producer Brian Eno, so the other members of the group could write ideas without him.

He explained: "Brian said that he still wanted to work with us on the next album but that I was banned from the studio! He said that it would be better without me for the first two weeks - 'You can do better without the singer!' he said.

"It has turned out to be a good idea though because the band's been free to try out loads of weird things without me getting in the way."

It has also previously been reported the "Violet Hill" group will pursue a more stripped back, intimate sound for the new album.

Coldplay: New Album Near Completion

By Yuda

Coldplay have promised fans some "killer" new songs.

The "Viva La Vida" hitmakers - comprising singer Chris Martin, guitarist Jonny Buckland, drummer Will Champion and bassistGuy Berryman - have almost finished work on their fifth studio album and are delighted with the results so far.

Writing on their blog, the band said: "The songs haven't assumed their final beautiful form yet but they're a very long way from their skin and bones phase. What's impossible not to conclude is that they have some killer tunes."

The album will be the long-awaited follow-up to 2008's "Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends" and is expected to be released later this year.

It was reported earlier this year that the group had written over 50 tracks for the album and labelled the songs A, B and C to decide which ones made the cut.

A source explained at the time: "The names of every idea have been written down - each on their own piece of card. Inevitably, there's a huge number of cards. From tiny moments that were played only once to things that have been playing for months now, they're all up there.

"The cards are first arranged on the wall in terms of A, B and C. The A list are songs that have to go on the record. The B list are songs that might or might not. The C list contains things that are being left."

Didier Drogba and Florent Malouda Forming Rock Band

By Yuda

Claimed as the "biggest music news to come out of football world", soccer stars Didier Drogbaand Florent Malouda are forming a rock band. The Chelsea teammates have no name for the band yet since they are "just at the beginning of the process and trying to start something special."

Drogba, who received a bass guitar from pal Wyclef Jean, would be the bassist while Malouda sits behind the drum set. Their vocalists are none other than fellow Chelsea players, John Terry and Joe Cole. "We have good singers in the dressing room but JT and Joe are the best," Malouda gushed.

Roughly, their band would sound like Coldplay. "I went to Wembley to see Coldplay and it was one of the greatest shows I have ever seen," Malouda recalled. "I enjoy live music and going to concerts and shows. I love bands who rock the crowd."

The players may have to shift the focus on the upcoming world cup in South Africa first before going full throttle with the music project. The sports event will kick off June 11. "When we are ready, we will show you the results," Malouda said about the band's debut.

Coldplay Plan To Release Fifth Album

By Yuda

Coldplay are planning on releasing their fifth studio album by Christmas 2010, Chris Martin has revealed.

The singer made the revelations in an interview with Brazilian TV show Fantastico where he admitted things were moving along faster than expected.

Asked when the follow-up to "Viva La Vida" will see the light of day, Martin responded: "Hopefully this Christmas."

However, according to Coldplaying.com, Martin said there was little chance of the record leaking early.

"There are only two people in the whole building who know how to open all the recording files," he explained.

"Even we don't know how to do it. We couldn't even steal our own music. You would have to be a computer genius and a great burglar to get into the building, and download it, and mix it."

The singer also confirmed the band won't be jumping ship from the ailing EMI at any point soon.

"We signed for a lot (of albums), it won't be the last one. We're 'owned', we can't do anything without asking someone's permission," he joked.
